Charitable Gift from Your IRA
You can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA and make an immediate impact. Here’s how it works:
- You must be 70 ½ or older.
- An individual may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year and a married couple may give up to $200,000.
- An individual may take a one-time QCD up to $50,000 to fund a charitable gift annuity (CGA) or charitable remainder trust (CRT).
- Your gift must be transferred directly from your IRA account to the HRC Foundation.
- Your gift is a transfer of funds from your IRA to the HRC Foundation, so while you do not receive a charitable deduction, it does not create taxable income for you.
- If you are 73 and older, the transfer of funds counts towards your annual Required Minimum Distribution* from your IRA.

Memorial or Tribute Gift
When you give a memorial or tribute gift for HRC to honor someone special, you’re expressing your love, admiration, and gratitude in one of the most meaningful ways there is. Your gift will honor your loved one, create a lasting tribute, and leave an imprint on the changes brought to the LGBTQ+ community.
Honoring a person’s memory is a wonderful way to celebrate their life. You can preserve their legacy by having their name promote equality and the work of the Human Rights Campaign. Upon making a memorial donation, a representative will be notified of the contribution you made in their loved one’s name. Learn more here.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
You can use stocks, bonds, and mutual funds that have appreciated in value to ensure equal rights for all people through the HRC Foundation. You may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock (up to a maximum of 30% of your adjusted gross income) and avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the value of the stock.
A donation of cash is the most direct way to support HRC. You can make your gift online with our online donation form.
Matching Gift Opportunities
Would you like to maximize the impact of your giving and encourage other supporters to mobilize on behalf achieving acceptance for all within the LGBTQ+ community? Consider sponsoring a matching gift challenge. Donate a pool of funds to HRC, from which we will match any donation made within a given period of time. In this way, you can double the impact of your giving.
The Impact of Your Giving
Could assist LGBTQ+. children in foster care
There is an increased amount of children currently in foster care who consider themselves part of the LGBTQ+ community. These children need support and guidance.
Could bring about changes in the workplace
Advancing workplace equality for LGBTQ+ employees means looking far beyond the employee handbook—it means putting policy into practice on the factory floor, in the corporate boardroom and everywhere in between.
Could provide public education, capacity building, legal expertise, and programmatic support across the globe
Our partnership programs are offered across a global network of 180 LGBTQ+ organizations and leaders in 90 countries around the world where the mission is to stop harassment, legal and societal discrimination and exclusion, violence, and sometimes death.
